May found me floundering to fight an acute attack of bronchitis. A short hospital stay helped; yet it kept me down for two weeks of zombie-like existence. I have never been that sick, ever. The drugs helped and hindered. I had no energy. Total inertia. A zombie in the making.
With the help of antibiotics, good old Prednison, and the Mucus-DM bomb, I have survived and move on to the future!
One thing I did do between naps was to READ. I loved Kate Quinn's "Briarwood," now optioned for a movie. "The Stolen Queen" by Fiona Davis was revealing and great entertainment. I reread Tim O'Brien's "The Things They Carried" and found Lisa Watson Crawford's memoir about adoption, "What We Wished For" a rollercoaster of hope, determination and resilience. I'm half-way through "The Secret Life of Julia Child," by Diana R. Chambers.
After the book launch of "The Second Mrs. London" on June 3, I'll be doing a reading and Q & A on the 22 at River House books in Carmel. The details are in the "Events" section here.
My big adventure takes me to Las Vegas the end of the month for the biennial Historical Fiction Society of American Conference. Three days of workshops, presentations, meetings, and greetings with Historical Fiction Writers from everywhere you can imagine. I'm looking forward to learning, expanding my interests, and to meeting new and favorite authors. I promise to keep you posted.
